What is Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH)?

Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) legend family surrogacy

AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) is a hormone secreted by small follicles in the ovaries. It is used to assess ovarian reserve. Unlike other tests, AMH levels are not affected by the menstrual cycle and can be measured at any time. Compared to ultrasound, it is a more stable indicator of the "ovarian reserve inventory."

What is the normal reference range for AMH?

Age

AMH Range (ng/mL)

Interpretation

20–30 years

2.0 – 6.8

Good reserve, suitable for natural conception or IVF

30–35 years

1.5 – 4.0

Declining reserve, still within manageable range

35–40 years

1.0 – 3.0

Lower reserve, consider fertility plans or IVF soon

Over 40

0.1 – 1.0

Low reserve, early IVF intervention recommended

What’s the connection between AMH and pregnancy/IVF outcomes?

AMH Level

Implication

> 5.0

Excellent reserve, possible PCOS, risk of overstimulation during IVF

2.0 – 4.5

Normal reserve, good response to stimulation, more stable embryo quality

1.0 – 2.0

Moderately low reserve, may need higher medication doses, fewer embryos

< 1.0

Diminished ovarian function, fewer embryos, early transfer or freezing advised

AMH is just a number.

It gives us a general idea of ovarian reserve, but it does not define a woman’s hope or potential.

Many women feel anxious, frustrated, or even start to doubt themselves after receiving a low AMH report. But remember—this is only one indicator of your physical state, not the end of your journey. With the advancements in medical technology and professional care, new possibilities are often within reach.

A "low AMH" result does not mean you won’t become a mother. It may just mean you’ll need stronger determination, a more strategic approach, and a medical team that truly understands and supports you.

Your effort, resilience, commitment to treatment, and love for the life you hope to create—those are more powerful than any hormone level.

As one woman once said:

“My AMH was only 0.5. The doctor told me it might be my last chance. I cried; I was scared—but I didn’t give up. Now, my daughter calls me ‘Mom’ every day. And I know, it was all worth it.”

You’re not facing these numbers alone. We are here with you.May you find strength in understanding your body—and always believe that the future can be created.
